Roxana Stamp

Roxana Stamp was born in 1964 in Bucharest, Romania.  At the age of eight she began painting in watercolour, inspired by an exceptional teacher, whom she credits with an important early influence, whose commitment and good advice helped the aspiring young artist to acquire a solid drawing technique and colour theory at an early age.

The year 1982 marked an important step in the artist’s vocation.  First, that year she started using oil as a medium and second, she took the liberty to paint long hours, against her parents’ permission.  Encouraged by an art professor who saw her works, in 1988 she decided to go further and started studying painting at the School of Art of Bucharest, graduating in 1991.  She also holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts with Specialization in History from the University of Ottawa.

Roxana Stamp participated in numerous juried exhibitions, both in her native Romania and in Canada.  Her paintings can be found in numerous private collections.  Her work was acclaimed by the great Romanian art critic Marin Mihalache.

Today the artist feels equally attracted to more than one style: Abstract, as well as Realism.  Yet her paintings also incorporate Impressionist techniques.  While still life remains her great passion, landscapes and abstracts are also among the artist’s favourite subjects.  Her works, mostly on stretched canvas, range from miniatures of 3 x 4 inches to larger paintings measuring 48 x 60 inches.  Roxana Stamp resides in the Ottawa region, where she has her own studio.
